About this Project

Project is a community-focused recreational development designed to provide a safe, modern, and inclusive space for skateboarding, BMX riding, scooter use, and other wheeled sports. Located within the Cannington Piazza precinct, the project aims to enhance public open space infrastructure while promoting youth engagement, physical activity, and social interaction.

The skatepark is designed to cater to users of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders. The layout incorporates a combination of street-style elements and transition features, including ramps, ledges, rails, bowls, banks, and quarter pipes. The design prioritizes flow, accessibility, and safety, ensuring smooth movement between features while minimizing collision risks.

Non-traditional construction techniques and carefully selected materials were used to replicate the look and feel of a genuine urban plaza while still meeting the specific performance requirements of a skateable surface. Constructed using durable reinforced concrete, the facility is built to withstand high usage and long – term wear. Integrated landscaping, seating areas with open plaza-style setting for social interaction, shaded zones, and spectator spaces support community gathering and event hosting.
Key features of the plaza include two skateable garden bed planters, a sculptural flat bar, slappy curbs, an extended-width ledge suitable for manual tricks, a three-sided slappy bank, an 850mm-high quarter pipe, and a 450mm-high stage area incorporating a variety of across-and-down ledges, banks, a three-stair set, block elements, and a granite Pier 7 feature. The skatepark is also designed with appropriate flood lighting and drainage systems to ensure year-round usability and safe evening access.
