About the Project

The South Hedland Skate Park is a very popular youth-oriented facility.

The skate park originally opened in 2015 however the hot Pilbara summers made the facility unusable for large periods of the year.  A shade structure was later designed by architects NORDA to meet strong community desire to protect skaters from the hot Pilbara sun. It was designed and developed to be engaging with the local youth that frequent the area.

The structural portal steel canopy was designed to meet cyclonic conditions and architecturally finished in vibrant aluminium composite panels.  Within the aluminium composite lined ceiling are custom made Enttec light panels which create an eye-catching lighting array that can be seen at dusk.

MG Group was awarded the construction of the $5.3M shade structure project at the end of 2021 with works completed as scheduled in October 2022.
