About this Project

Maylands Waterland is a much-loved water facility that was constructed in the 1970s. Due to its ageing infrastructure, the city is redeveloping the facility to deliver a new water playground. The city engaged Josh Byrne and Associates to design the new facility, which will be delivered in two stages. The concept plans are based on previous feedback from the community and input from the Maylands Waterland Working Group.

What makes this very special facility extra unique is how it integrates into the foreshore area and helps create a greater Maylands foreshore reserve. It incorporates a restorative design approach that will improve the health and ecological value of the Swan River. From the outset of this project, we were acutely aware of how important the site is to the local community, as well as its cultural and ecological significance. The project reflects these sensitivities in a creative, respectful and playful way.
